Experience & Activities

When Adri Visser saw what her mother was able to do for others in her capacity as a professional nurse, she knew her future lay in the medical field.

And when her hard-working parent’s colleague suggested physiotherapy as a profession, her mind was made up.

In 2003 she graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy, the first of many milestones she would reach along the way. Thirteen years later, she added a Master’s in Rehab Studies to her resume for good measure.

Adri, 42, is one of the outstanding trainers who guide attendees of our Basic and Intermediate wheelchair workshops.

Seating advocate

A seating specialist who approaches her work in a logical and solutions-based manner, she is passionate about human rights and places considerable focus on helping wheelchair service delivery professionals advocate for their clients.

“This course teaches you why we do what we do and the how to do it in a logical, methodical way,” Adri says.

“Seating is one of the most important parts of rehabilitation and is often overlooked. Having these skills and implementing them will ensure appropriate wheelchair prescription and fitting for optimal functionality and prevention of secondary complications.”

Getting technical

Such is her love of her field that she hopes to learn more about the technical aspects of wheelchairs, “maybe even welding”.

Adri is a staunch believer in the philosophy that a healthy body houses a healthy mind.

Away from the office you will find her hiking, camping or running – there is always a couple of half-marathons up the road.
