Experience & Activities
As a mother of two young girls herself, Cape Town paediatric physiotherapist Liesel Els understands the importance of family.
For her, there are few things more rewarding than becoming part of her patients’ circle of loved ones.
“I have the privilege of working with the child as well as the parents. And who wouldn’t enjoy playing the whole day?” she quips.
Quality over quantity
Liesel brings a wealth of experience to her role as a trainer of Rehab Skills Lab’s Basic seating course.
The friendly 36-year-old worked in the public sector for six years before starting her private practice where she specialises in paediatric neurodevelopmental therapy.
Her services are also in high demand at neonatal intensive care units.
Liesel always emphasises quality over quantity when lecturing, which introduce trainees to a clear and systematic way of seating.
“Our users sit 12 hours of the day. Effective and correct seating is the best form of therapy,” she says.
As intense as her career can be sometimes, she also enjoys that it has its lighter moments.
She once treated a patient’s shoulder for 45 minutes only to be told that it was actually the opposite shoulder that needed attention.
“Know your left from right well! As I say, it’s the basics that count.”
