Rehan Hall

Experience & Activities

People are called to physiotherapy for various reasons. East London’s Rehan Hall is no exception.

The 37-year-old wanted to travel the world as the Proteas’ resident physio so he could watch cricket all day.

While that dream is still to be realised, he couldn’t be happier in his work.

“I love the human connection, the constant problem-solving, clinical reasoning and how physio keeps you moving all day,” he says.

As a Basic level trainer for Rehab Skills Lab, he is determined to help attendees understand the realities of treating persons with disabilities.

Sense of responsibility

More than 10 years in the field at different levels of public healthcare has given him a unique perspective on the daily challenges faced by professionals.

“I want to empower participants not only with knowledge and skills but also with a sense of responsibility and advocacy for our most vulnerable patients.”

He believes every rehabilitation professional should have knowledge of wheelchair service delivery.

Too often he sees patients stripped of their right to freedom of movement and mobility due to financial constraints or clinicians not adequately capacitated at undergraduate level.

“The Rehab Skills Lab course will open your eyes and give you confidence,” he says.

Studious

Rehan holds a BSC in Physiotherapy from the University of the Free State and a Master’s in human rehabilitation studies from Stellenbosch.

He recalls his student days fondly, particularly making up songs “using the ridiculous anatomical terms we had to somehow get in our brains”.

“I think the one song was called ‘Lift your Zygomaticus Major for me’, which was about getting a girl to smile back at you. It might have been a hit if the band didn’t fracture.”
